LOEL

watercolorist, scientist, special needs mama

Loel Kathmann is a self-taught watercolor artist living in Eastern Washington, U.S. A scientist by training, Loel’s technical background heavily informs her art, especially through her deep interest in pigment chemistry.

Loel exited her career in science to be present for her son who was born with severe autism and a rare form of epilepsy. In the midst of these caregiving challenges, picking up a paint brush was an entirely unexpected gift. Loel is grateful that art helps her stay centered, build competency, and find joy in connecting with artists who share her watercolor passion.

Loel owns and operates MoR ArtYo, LLC. Her company name stands for Mother of Reinvention Art Studio and is a nod to her minimally verbal son’s word for art studio, ArtYo.
